Find Your Voice Episode 1: Your Inner Child is a Genius!
We're looking at our purest creations this week...which is basically artwork from our childhood.
Remember what is was like to create artwork as a kid? All you needed was pretty simple materials - crayons and markers did the trick (you didn't even need the name brand) and a piece of printer paper from your teacher.
I don't know about you, but all throughout school I doodled on everything. I used my scratch paper after standardized tests to draw out little landscapes and I always decorated the front covers of my 99 cent notebooks!
I want you to remember that feeling: When we were kids, we created for the joy of it, and we mostly weren't super critical of what we had done. In that lies some of your creative DNA!
We are not born with unrealistic expectations for ourselves. Those come into play when we've become aware of how judgmental the world can be, and that's when we start criticizing ourselves against unreasonable standards.
Picasso said, "“All children are born artists, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up.” I think this is what he was talking about!
